We asked the caravan dealers and wanted to know whether they would be available at the weekend if the worst came to the worst.
“Accessible” does not mean “local”
In our question, we did not address individual services, but only general accessibility. A tip from a professional often helps to get a defect under control and be able to continue driving. Therefore, on Saturday we will still work on things and help where possible, but this will lead to massive overload. Vogel Motorhomes from Switzerland offer almost constant telephone availability, so they want to offer their customers a very special service. However, a little relief is also provided here because all rented vehicles come with breakdown service insurance that is valid throughout Europe. This means that customers have an additional point of contact in the event of an emergency.

When service becomes a problem
Another example of a very service-oriented company is WVD-Südcaravan in Freiburg. On Saturday, whatever can be repaired will be repaired here. However, if a spare part is no longer available, overnight accommodation is also provided on the company premises. Unfortunately, we were informed that we are currently considering discontinuing this service because the parking space has repeatedly been misused and dirty. A good example of how a few black sheep among the campers can deprive others of good service. At this point we appeal to the common sense of all campers and hope that the future motorhome owners there will appreciate this courtesy, if it is still offered at all.
Also think about alternatives
Most of the dealers who responded are only actually available on Saturdays at the weekend, usually until the early afternoon. A few can actually be reached by phone throughout the weekend. Of the 46 caravan dealers who responded to our question, only 11 are neither open on Saturday nor Sunday or are available. We understand that well, of course, as the general tenor of the more detailed answers is that accessibility also brings with it a great burden. For all caravanners and motorhome enthusiasts, we have now added the dealer information regarding “available on weekends” in the “for on the go” section. This information only means partial telephone availability on weekends. Here you can only filter roughly. In order to get certainty about possible breakdown assistance, you have to reach for the telephone. And if you want to be on the safe side, become a member of an automobile club or have breakdown insurance through the manufacturer. These are usually available around the clock and are equipped to deal with almost any problem.
